Sony SRS portable player

Sony SRS portable player

Ever since the summer I meant to write about a lively pet that we welcomed on board in Kappeln. Our ship entertainment system from Sony, a portable, wireless / bluetooth  speaker.

I love music but cellphone or iPad speakers can really ruin it for you. Ever since I brought the Seascape I have been looking into different options on how to get music in decent quality on board.

The most obvious would be a car radio, waterproof speakers in the cockpit and decent once in the salon. STOP no!!!

Additional holes in the boat, cables everywhere …. and the price?!

Listening to the radio may be nice, the weather report eventually helpful but I’d like to select the music myself to deepen the sailing experience, not making it stressful by news, commercials or some supposed to be funny moderator or whatever. I completely rely on Spotify for that matter.

Party of two ;)

Party of two 😉

I run Sonos at home but they require 110V/220V and do not come with a battery. I was looking into something similar. Something I can stream the music to from my cellphone or tablet wirelessly. Something I can control remotely. Something I can take along when beaching or having a barbecue. I haven’t perfected eating and playing the guitar at the same time yet.

There is a variety of Sony,  Loewe, Bose and other brands out there fulfilling this exactly.  When shopping in Kappeln during our summer trip, we came across a store that was advertising the wireless portable speaker of Sony. Since we were just strolling around, we took a closer look.

The last season models had a not so nice look (e.g. SRS-BTX500). So we went straight for the new non-discounted models. Setup is easy, either connect with NFC or if you run Apple quickly setup the Bluetooth connection manually. That’s it!

The sound of the little one (SRS-X5) was really good for such a small device. Full base, full treble. The sound of the bigger one (SRS-X7) even better. More base, cleaner treble.

The store did not offer any other brands for comparison. But I would have felt bad using 1.5 hours of their time, having the unpack several devices and the taking off to buy somewhere else or order in the internet. It was only later that I figured, I could have saved 65€ when buying from amazon. Anyways, I loved what I heard and I wanted the speaker. The store owners where nice people and Sony was ours to take home.

Finally some Helene Fischer in decent quality. It’s nice to share good with the neighbors 😉
