The patch on the sails preventing the sails from rubbing through on the spreaders was worn of by the downwind ride south of Ærø. Time to fix it before the sails are damaged. We’ll be sailing from Grömitz to Orth tomorrow, according to the predicted wind direction mostly downwind. Good idea to do it today.
With less than 10€ for some artificial leather and ribbon, I’ve build a sail / spreader protectors. I used a round plate, scissors and players to shape it and cut the ribbon holes.
The protectors are certainly not the most beautiful, but I’m sure they’ll do the trick. Next time, I’ll get other ribbons – preferably in black.
The more exiting part was actually going up into the rig – my first time. We’ve used two halyards, just in case. It’s a pretty nice view up there.
Note to myself: wear a t-shirt. I spend around 1,5 hours up there taking pictures, enjoying the view and sewing the protectors onto the rig. With 4-5 bft, my body cooled down unexpectedly fast despite the sun. Back on board, I put on some warm cloth and had a tea.
