If you followed my recent posts, you know that I was going to sail the Seascape 18 in Denmark today. I did no such thing! Unfortunately, the guy who charters out the boats in Denmark has overbooked our boat and we were the poor dogs not getting the boat 🙁 lucky we called before we left to Denmark.
So Dietmar’s friend Achim, the third guy on our planned trip, invited us to sail on his boat instead. It’s located close to Hoopte, Germany at the river Elbe. As you probably heard, Europe is currently hit by flooding including the Elbe. We are living quite downstream of the Elbe and though there is a chance the dams are not strong or high enough, it’s relatively calm right now. Nicely of Achim, he invited my girlfriend as well. His boat is not a Seascape 18 but the package is a very good compensation for the situation in Denmark.
No sailing today!
Believe it or not, just when we arrived at the pier, the Elbe was closed for sports – what a day! So no sailing today. The only “sailing” we have done was moving the boat from the upstream side of the pier to the downstream side to secure it from trees and all sorts of debris washed up by the flood. So all that was left of our big sailing plans was a cold beer we had in the cockpit whilst enjoying the sun and looking at the strong current on the river.
To make the situation somewhat meaningful at last, we decided to help filling sandbags like we have done the past few days.
