My navigation instruments arrived. I choose the TackTick T108 system - well it's branded with Raymarine today, but still the same system. TackTick T108 sensors give wind, speed, depth and sea temperature. It also includes two displays, one dual display with all sorts of information and one wind display covering a 360° or a magnified scale.
It's awesome that the components communicate wirelessly and are powered by solar - no need for cables, just too old school. One can take the displays inside while not sailing, preventing theft or weathering. Well, the hull transmitter and triducer is an exception of course.
The system is easily setup. I unpacked the box, switched on one display and the system was already transmitting all available data. It's very practical that you can switch on / off any of the displays and the other components will do the same automatically.
TackTick T108 is expandable with AIS, GPS, a fluxgate compass, auto-pilot ..., and WiFi NMEA transmitter, enabling any WiFi NMEA enabled device to read the sensor values as well.
I don't get why anyone would use a cable based system, if you can have a wireless one!
