An exiting day in Newport, Rhode Island watching the Volvo Ocean In-Port Race.
Only 4 hours drive from my new home, a trip I did delightfully. The race itself actually wasn’t the most exiting event of the day; reaching race with a lot less details and close ups compared to the live-stream. The action in the race village, the boats, the sailors made it worthwhile!
Seeing the boats, that I have seen so often on TV in real life sets things into perspective. We couldn’t get on-board a Volvo but Vestas had build a model – casted in the original mold with just different materials that one could get onto. Amazing boats. I was really surprised about the bunks – a lot more comfy than I envisioned; but poor on-board reporter. He really got one of the worst places in the boat; rather a cave where even a bear wouldn’t prefer to spent the wintertime.
Being there made me anxious to get back onto the water. If someone had asked, I would have joined any of the teams for the next leg to Lisbon. … who wouldn’t!
I got some pretty colorful shots from the sailors parade and around the area before race start. Unfortunately the sun died on us later the day, basically with start of the race.
